Ingredients

9 lasagna noodles

1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage

1 medium onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

2 cups ricotta cheese

1 large egg

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

3 cups marinara sauce (homemade or store-bought)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil and parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook Noodles: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the lasagna noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Prepare Meat Mixture: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or Italian sausage along with the diced onion. Cook until the meat is browned and the onions are translucent. Drain excess fat. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.

Mix Cheese Filling: In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well until smooth.

Layer the Lasagna: In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom. Place three lasagna noodles on top. Layer half of the ricotta mixture on the noodles, followed by half of the meat mixture, then a third of the mozzarella cheese, and a little more marinara sauce. Repeat the layers: noodles, ricotta, meat, mozzarella, and marinara.

Final Layer: Place the last three noodles on top. Spread the remaining marinara sauce over the noodles. Sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil (to prevent sticking, you can spray the foil with cooking spray). Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Cool and Serve: Remove from oven and let it rest for about 15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil and parsley, if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
