Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted

1 cup (200g) granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 cup (90g) chocolate chips (dark or semi-sweet)

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened

1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar

1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar, packed

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup (175g) chocolate chips (milk or semi-sweet)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.

    Make the Brownie Layer:

      - In a medium bowl, mix the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined.

        - Add the eggs and vanilla extract, whisking until creamy.

          - Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir until just combined.

            - Gently fold in the chocolate chips.

              - Spread the brownie batter evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking pan.

                Make the Cookie Layer:

                  - In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

                    - Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

                      - In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually mix this dry mixture into the wet ingredients until just combined.

                        - Fold in the chocolate chips.

                          Assemble the Browkies:

                            - Spoon the cookie dough over the brownie layer. Use a spatula to gently spread it out, but leave some brownie batter visible for that marbled look.

Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are set and the center is just slightly soft (a toothpick inserted should come out with a few moist crumbs but not wet batter).

Cool: Allow the Browkies to cool in the pan on a wire rack for about 20-30 minutes. Then, using the parchment overhang, carefully lift them out and let them cool completely on the rack.

Cut and Serve: Once completely cool, cut into squares and enjoy your fudgy chewy Browkies!
