Ingredients

Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup cocoa powder

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 cup chocolate chips (semisweet or dark)

Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup chocolate chips (semisweet or milk)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

      Prepare the Brownie Layer:

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

          Combine Dry Ingredients:

In a separate bowl, combine cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Stir in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.

              Spread the Brownie Batter:

Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly over the bottom.

                  Prepare the Cookie Layer:

In another bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add in the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well blended.

                      Combine Cookie Dry Ingredients:

In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture until combined. Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.

                          Layer the Cookie Batter:

Carefully spread the cookie dough over the brownie layer using a spatula, trying to keep the layers as separate as possible.

                              Bake:

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs (not wet batter). The edges should be firm but the center may still look slightly underbaked; it will continue to cook while cooling.

                                  Cool and Cut:

Allow the browkies to cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least 15-20 minutes. Once cooled, remove from the pan using the parchment paper (if used) and cut into squares.

                                      Serve:

Enjoy your fudgy, chewy browkies warm or at room temperature with a glass of milk or your favorite beverage!
