Ingredients

1 lb (450g) ground beef

1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves

3 cloves garlic, minced

2 shallots, thinly sliced

2-3 Thai bird's eye chilies (adjust to taste), finely chopped

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

3 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

1 tablespoon fish sauce

1 teaspoon sugar

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

2 cups cooked jasmine rice

Lime wedges and cucumber slices for garnish

Instructions

Cook the Rice: If not done previously, rinse the jasmine rice until the water runs clear and then cook it according to package instructions. Set aside.

Prepare the Stir-Fry: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic, sliced shallots, and chopped bird's eye chilies. Stir-fry for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Add the Beef: Increase the heat to high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon until it is browned and cooked through.

Add Sauces: Stir in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, sugar, and black pepper. Mix well and let it cook for an additional 2-3 minutes for the flavors to meld together.

Incorporate Basil: Turn off the heat and fold in the fresh Thai basil leaves until they are wilted and well combined.

Serve: Spoon the spicy Thai basil beef over a bed of jasmine rice. Garnish with lime wedges and cucumber slices for a fresh contrast.
