Ingredients

4 large apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup milk

Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper for easy removal.

Prepare the Apples: Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges. In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with cinnamon and lemon juice. Set aside.

Make the Batter: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Cream the Sugar and Butter: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.

Combine Dry and Wet Ingredients: Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the flour, mixing until just combined. The batter will be thick.

Fold in the Apples: Carefully fold the prepared apples into the batter, ensuring they are evenly distributed.

Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool the Cake: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serve: Once cooled, dust the top with powdered sugar if desired. Slice and serve warm or at room temperature, with optional whipped cream or vanilla ice cream on the side.

Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes | Servings: 8-10 slices
