At the heart of any great BBQ slider is the meat, and for this recipe, pork shoulder reigns supreme. Pork shoulder, also known as pork butt, is a cut of meat that comes from the upper part of the pig’s front leg. This cut is particularly well-suited for slow cooking due to its marbled fat content, which melts during cooking, keeping the meat moist and flavorful. The result is tender, juicy pulled pork that easily shreds apart with a fork.

Ingredients

1.5 lbs pork shoulder or pork butt, trimmed and cut into large chunks

1 cup BBQ sauce (homemade or store-bought)

1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

1/4 cup honey

1 tablespoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

8 slider buns

1 cup coleslaw (for topping)

Fresh cilantro or green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Pork: In a slow cooker, combine the pork chunks, BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, honey, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix until the pork is well coated with the sauce.

Slow Cook: Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours, until the pork is tender and easily shredded.

Shred the Meat: Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir in the juices to soak up all the flavor.

Toast the Buns: While the pork is soaking up the juices, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the slider buns on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven for about 5-7 minutes or until they are lightly golden.

Assemble the Sliders: For each slider, place a generous amount of the shredded BBQ pork on the bottom half of the toasted bun. Top with a spoonful of coleslaw for crunch and freshness, then place the top half of the bun over it.

Garnish and Serve: Optionally, sprinkle with fresh cilantro or sliced green onions for a pop of flavor. Serve the sliders warm with extra BBQ sauce on the side for dipping.
