Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for extra heat)

1/2 cup beef broth or water

1 tablespoon tomato paste

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

Lime wedges (for serving)

Instructions

Heat the Oil: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat until hot.

Cook the Onion and Garlic: Add the finely chopped onion to the skillet. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until it becomes translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

Brown the Meat: Increase the heat to medium-high. Add the ground beef (or turkey) to the skillet. Use a spatula to break it apart as it cooks. Cook for 5-7 minutes until browned, making sure to drain any excess fat if necessary.

Season the Meat: Once the meat is cooked, add the chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using) to the skillet. Stir well to evenly coat the meat with the spices.

Add Liquids: In a small bowl, mix the beef broth (or water), tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth. Pour this mixture into the skillet and stir, ensuring the meat is well coated.

Simmer: Lower the heat to medium-low and let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally and add a bit more broth or water if the mixture becomes too thick.

Taste and Adjust: Taste the taco meat and adjust the seasoning as necessary, adding more salt or spices if desired.

Serve: Once cooked, remove the skillet from heat. Serve the taco meat in warm tortillas, garnished with fresh cilantro and lime wedges on the side.
