Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20 for added flavor)

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat)

1 egg, beaten

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)

2 cups mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, and corn)

2 tablespoons olive oil

Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Meat Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt. Mix until just combined; avoid overmixing to keep the meat tender.

Shape the Patties: Divide the meat mixture into four equal portions and shape them into oval patties, approximately 3/4 inch thick.

Sear the Patties: In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties and sear them for about 3-4 minutes on each side until they develop a nice brown crust.

Bake the Patties: Transfer the seared patties to a greased baking dish. Top each with shredded cheese, and then bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the internal temperature of the meat reaches 160°F (70°C).

Prepare the Vegetables: While the patties are baking, steam or sauté the mixed vegetables until tender (about 5-7 minutes).

Serve: Plate the patties alongside the mixed vegetables. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired. Enjoy your delicious and budget-friendly Savory Poor Man's Steak Delight!
