Ingredients

1 lb (450 g) beef sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain

2 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)

1 red bell pepper, sliced into thin strips

1 yellow bell pepper, sliced into thin strips

1 cup broccoli florets

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated

3 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)

1 tablespoon cornstarch

2 tablespoons water

1 teaspoon sesame oil

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cups cooked jasmine rice or brown rice, for serving

Sesame seeds and chopped green onions, for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Beef Marinade: In a medium bowl, combine the sliced beef with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Allow it to marinate for at least 15 minutes to enhance the flavor.

    Stir-Fry the Vegetables:

      - Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.

        - Add the garlic and ginger, stir-frying for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

          - Add the broccoli and bell peppers. Stir-fry for about 4-5 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.

            Cook the Beef:

              - In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil.

                - Add the marinated beef in a single layer (work in batches if necessary). Cook for about 2-3 minutes without stirring to get a good sear. Flip and stir-fry until cooked through, about another 2 minutes.

                  Create the Sauce:

                    - In a small bowl, combine the remaining soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, cornstarch, and water. Mix well until the cornstarch is dissolved.

                      - Pour this mixture over the cooked beef in the skillet. Stir to coat the beef evenly and cook for another minute until the sauce thickens.

                        Combine Everything:

                          - Return the stir-fried vegetables to the skillet with the beef. Add sesame oil, tossing everything together to heat through. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if necessary.

                            Serve:

                              - Serve the savory beef stir-fry over bowls of jasmine or brown rice.

                                - Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions for an extra pop of flavor and color.
