Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1 cup packed brown sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 teaspoon sea salt flakes (for topping)

Optional: 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan and line with parchment paper for easy removal.

Make the Batter: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 2-3 minutes.

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until fully combined.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Fold in Caramel and Nuts: Reserve 1/2 cup of caramel sauce to drizzle on top later. Fold the remaining caramel sauce into the batter until evenly distributed. If desired, fold in the chopped nuts.

Bake the Bars: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.

Add the Topping: Let the bars cool for about 10 minutes, then drizzle the reserved caramel sauce on top. Sprinkle sea salt flakes evenly over the caramel.

Cool Completely: Allow the bars to cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes before lifting them out using the parchment paper. Transfer to a cutting board and cut into squares or bars.

Serve and Enjoy: Enjoy your delicious salted caramel butter bars warm, or let them cool completely for a firmer texture. These bars are perfect as a sweet treat or dessert!
