Ingredients

1¾ cups warm water (110°F to 115°F)

1 packet active dry yeast (about 2¼ teaspoons)

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 large egg, beaten

4 hot dogs (your choice of beef, turkey, or plant-based)

½ cup baking soda

Coarse sea salt for topping

Yellow mustard for serving

Instructions

In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.

In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture, stirring until a dough forms.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope about 12-14 inches long.

Wrap each dough rope around a hot dog, ensuring it covers the dog completely.

In a large pot, bring 8 cups of water to a gentle boil and add the baking soda. Drop each pretzel-wrapped hot dog into the water for about 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon and place on the baking sheet.

Brush the tops with the beaten egg and sprinkle coarse sea salt over each pretzel dog.

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Allow to cool slightly before serving.

                      Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes | Servings: 4

                        - Serving Suggestions: Serve warm with yellow mustard on the side for dipping, and consider adding pickles or relish for extra flavor!
