The origins of Sloppy Joes can be traced back to the early 20th century, where they emerged as a school cafeteria staple. The dish typically consists of ground meat cooked with a tangy tomato sauce and served on a bun. On the other hand, the Philly cheese steak hails from the streets of Philadelphia, where tender slices of beef are typically topped with melted cheese and served in a hoagie roll. The Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes bring these two beloved comfort foods together, creating a dish that is not only delicious but also uniquely satisfying.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 medium onion, finely chopped

1 bell pepper (any color), diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup mushrooms, sliced

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon mustard (yellow or Dijon)

½ teaspoon black pepper

Salt to taste

4 egg sandwich rolls or hoagie buns

1 cup provolone cheese, shredded

¼ cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms to the skillet. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

Add Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, mustard, black pepper, and salt to taste. Mix well and let it simmer for another 3-4 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

          Preheat your oven broiler.

Slice open the egg rolls or hoagie buns and place them on a baking sheet. Spoon the beef and vegetable mixture onto each bun, evenly distributing it.

Sprinkle provolone cheese on top, followed by mozzarella cheese.

Place the baking sheet under the broiler for about 3-5 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned. Keep an eye on it to avoid burning.

Remove from the oven and garnish with fresh parsley before serving. Enjoy your cheesy twist on classic Sloppy Joes!
