Ingredients

1 package phyllo dough (16 oz), thawed

2 cups mixed nuts (walnuts, pistachios, almonds), finely chopped

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup water

1/2 cup honey

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare Nut Mixture: In a bowl, combine the finely chopped mixed nuts, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Set aside.

Layer Phyllo Dough: Take one sheet of phyllo dough and brush it lightly with melted butter. Place it in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Repeat this process with around 8 sheets, brushing each one with butter.

Add Nut Filling: Spread a thin layer of the nut mixture over the phyllo layers. Continue layering by adding another phyllo sheet, brushing it with butter, followed by more nut mixture. Repeat this process until half of the nut mixture is used.

Continue Layers: Add another 8 sheets of phyllo dough, each brushed with butter. Once again, top with the remaining nut mixture. Finally, layer the last 8 sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter.

Cut Baklava: With a sharp knife, cut the assembled baklava into diamond or square shapes. Ensure you cut a deep line through all layers.

Bake: Place the baklava in the preheated oven and bake for about 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crisp.

Make Syrup: While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup. In a saucepan, combine granulated sugar, water, honey, and vanilla extract. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Combine: Once the baklava is done, remove it from the oven. Pour the warm syrup evenly over the hot baklava. Let it sit for several hours or overnight to absorb the syrup.

Serve: Serve at room temperature and enjoy your delightful and rich baklava!
