Ingredients

1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

1 tablespoon soy sauce

2 tablespoons cornstarch

3 tablespoons vegetable oil

3 green onions, chopped (green parts only)

2 cloves garlic, minced

1-inch piece fresh ginger, grated

1/4 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

1 tablespoon sesame oil

Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

In a bowl, marinate the sliced flank steak with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce for about 15 minutes.

After marinating, toss the beef in cornstarch until well-coated. This will create a crispy texture when cooked.

Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the steak in batches, cooking each side for about 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.

In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil and stir-fry the minced garlic and grated ginger for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

Pour in 1/4 cup of soy sauce and 1/4 cup of brown sugar. Stir well to combine. Allow the sauce to simmer for a minute.

Return the cooked beef to the skillet and mix it well with the sauce. Let it cook for another 2-3 minutes until the beef is heated through and evenly coated.

Add the chopped green onions, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using) into the pan. Stir for another minute.

Drizzle the sesame oil over the finished dish and toss again for an even distribution of flavors.

Remove from heat and let it sit for a minute before serving to allow flavors to meld.
