For the Cake:

1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

1 cup strong brewed coffee (cooled)

½ cup vegetable oil

2 large eggs

2 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup buttermilk

For the Coffee-Mocha Frosting:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

4 cups powdered sugar

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 tbsp brewed coffee (cooled)

2 tsp vanilla extract

A pinch of sea salt

For the Garnish:

Chocolate shavings

Coffee beans (optional)

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

    Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

      Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the cooled brewed coffee, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and buttermilk until smooth.

        Combine Mixtures: Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

          Bake: Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

            Prepare the Frosting: While the cakes cool, make the frosting. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa, alternating with the brewed coffee and vanilla extract. Mix until the frosting is smooth and fluffy. Add a pinch of sea salt to enhance the flavor.

              Assemble the Cake: Once the cakes have completely cooled, place one layer on a serving platter. Spread a generous amount of mocha frosting on top before placing the second layer on top. Frost the top and sides of the whole cake.
