Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

¾ cup granulated sugar

¾ cup brown sugar, packed

1 tbsp vanilla extract

2 large eggs

2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)

1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans, optional)

1 cup shredded coconut (optional)

Flaky sea salt for topping

Instructions

Prep the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, add the vanilla extract and mix until fully combined.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter and sugar mixture, mixing just until combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Fold in Extras: Gently fold in the chocolate chips, nuts, and shredded coconut if using, until well distributed throughout the dough.

Scoop Cookies: Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Sprinkle with Sea Salt: Before baking, sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt on top of each cookie dough ball for a delightful sweet and salty contrast.

Bake the Cookies: Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the centers are soft. The cookies will continue to cook a bit after you remove them from the oven.

Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
