1 lb ground Italian sausage (or turkey sausage)

1 cup bell peppers, diced (any color)

1 cup mushrooms, sliced

1 small onion, diced

1 cup marinara sauce (sugar-free if desired)

1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional for spice)

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

    Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned and cooked through, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat if necessary.

      Add Vegetables: Add the diced onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms to the skillet. Sauté until the vegetables are tender, about 5-7 minutes.

        Combine Ingredients: Stir in the marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until the ingredients are well combined and heated through.

          Prepare Baking Dish: Spoon the sausage and vegetable mixture into a greased baking dish evenly.

            Add Cheese: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the top of the mixture.

              Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
