Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend for juiciness)

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup milk

1 large egg

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/2 tsp onion powder

1/2 tsp garlic powder

2 tbsp olive oil (for frying)

1 cup beef broth

2 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp cornstarch (optional for thickening)

1 tbsp water (for cornstarch slurry)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, half of the chopped onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined.

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties, about 3/4 inch thick.

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the patties to the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until browned and cooked to your desired level of doneness. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

In the same skillet, add the remaining chopped onion and cook until softened and golden brown, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.

Pour in the beef broth and soy sauce, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

If you want a thicker gravy, mix cornstarch with water in a small bowl to create a slurry and stir into the skillet. Cook for a few more minutes until the gravy thickens to your liking. If not using cornstarch, allow the gravy to simmer on low for about 5-7 minutes.

Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, spoon some gravy over them, and let them simmer in the gravy for 2-3 minutes.

Serve the hamburger steaks hot, drenched in savory onion gravy, and garnish with fresh parsley. Enjoy with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite side dishes!
