Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon active dry yeast

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

¾ cup warm water (about 110°F)

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Proof the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Make the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the proofed yeast mixture and olive oil, and mix until a dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.

First Rising: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.

Shape the Breadsticks: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle about ½ inch thick. Cut the dough into strips (about 1 inch wide).

Season the Sticks: Place the sticks on a lined baking sheet. Mix the garlic powder and Italian seasoning, then sprinkle this mixture over the breadsticks.

Add Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese over the dough strips.

Second Rising: Let the breadsticks rise for another 20 minutes while the oven finishes preheating.

Bake: Bake the breadsticks in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes until they are golden brown and cheese is bubbling.

Garnish and Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven, garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired, and serve warm.
