Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick, softened)

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup packed brown sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup chocolate chips (milk or dark, as preferred)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

    Make the Brownie Layer:

      - In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well combined.

        - Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir until just combined, then fold in the chocolate chips. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Set aside.

          Prepare the Cookie Layer:

            - In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.

              - Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.

                - In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.

                  Assemble the Brookies:

                    - Drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough on top of the brownie batter. Use a spatula or the back of a spoon to gently swirl the cookie dough into the brownie layer. Do not mix completely; you want swirls of both layers visible.

Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, gently lift it out of the pan using the parchment paper, and cool completely on a wire rack. Cut into squares and serve.
