Ingredients

1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined

1 cup buttermilk

1 tablespoon hot sauce (adjust to taste)

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup cornmeal

2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon paprika

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Salt to taste

Oil for frying (canola or vegetable oil)

Lemon wedges, for serving

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Marinate the Shrimp: In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk and hot sauce. Add the shrimp, ensuring they are well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to 2 hours for maximum flavor absorption.

Prepare the Coating: In a separate shallow dish, mix together the flour, cornmeal, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and salt until well combined.

Heat the Oil: In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat about 2 inches of oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). A kitchen thermometer can help ensure the oil is at the right temperature.

Coat the Shrimp: Remove the marinated shrimp from the refrigerator. Let excess buttermilk drip off, then dredge each shrimp in the flour-cornmeal mixture, pressing lightly to ensure the coating adheres well. Shake off any excess coating.

Fry the Shrimp: Carefully add the coated shrimp to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 3-4 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serve: Once all the shrimp are fried, arrange them on a serving platter. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve with lemon wedges on the side for an extra burst of flavor.

              Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Servings: 4
