Ingredients

1 pre-made pie crust (9-inch)

4 cups apples, peeled and sliced (preferably a mix of tart and sweet)

1 cup brown sugar

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces

1 egg (for egg wash)

Optional: 1/2 cup chopped pecans for added crunch

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 425°F (220°C).

Prepare the Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples with brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice. Mix until the apples are well coated.

Assemble the Pie: Lay the pre-made pie crust into a pie dish. Fill the crust with the apple mixture, spreading it evenly. Dot the top with small pieces of butter. If desired, sprinkle chopped pecans over the apple filling for added texture.

Top Crust: If you have a second pie crust, you can place it over the filling and cut slits in the top to allow steam to escape. Alternatively, you can create a lattice top for a beautiful presentation.

Egg Wash: Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush it over the top crust for a golden finish.

Bake: Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes. Then, reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 35-40 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.

Cool and Serve: Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will help the filling set up. Serve warm or at room temperature, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
