Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (85% lean)

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably homemade)

1 large onion, finely chopped (divided)

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 egg

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1 tsp dried parsley

4 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced

2 cups beef broth

2 cups green beans, trimmed

2 tbsp olive oil

1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Meat Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, half of the chopped onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and dried parsley. Mix until well combined but do not overwork the meat. Shape the mixture into 4-6 equal-sized patties.

Sear the Patties: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the hamburger patties and sear them for about 3-4 minutes on each side until browned. They will not be cooked through at this stage; this is just to develop flavor.

Layer the Dish: In a 9x13 inch baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes on the bottom. Sprinkle the remaining chopped onion evenly over the potatoes. Place the seared hamburger steaks on top of the potatoes.

Add Broth and Green Beans: Pour the beef broth over the entire dish, ensuring that the potatoes are submerged. Then, scatter the green beans over the top of the patties.

Bake: Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the patties are cooked through.

Add Cheese (Optional): If using cheese, sprinkle it over the patties in the last 5 minutes of baking to allow it to melt.

Serve: Carefully remove the dish from the oven. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve warm, spooning the delicious broth over the hamburger steaks and potatoes.
