Ingredients

8 Hawaiian sweet rolls

4 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 tablespoon coconut milk (optional)

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Fresh pineapple slices, for serving

Maple syrup, for drizzling

Powdered sugar, for garnish

Shredded coconut, toasted (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Custard Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, brown sugar, and coconut milk (if using). Make sure the mixture is well combined and smooth.

Slice the Rolls: Carefully slice the Hawaiian sweet rolls in half horizontally without separating the halves completely. You want them to open like a book.

Soak the Rolls: Dip each roll half into the custard mixture, allowing them to soak for about 1-2 minutes per side. Be gentle to ensure they don’t fall apart.

Heat the Skillet: In a large non-stick skillet or griddle, melt 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter over medium heat.

Cook the French Toast: Place the soaked rolls in the skillet, cut side down. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown. Flip them carefully and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes on the other side.

Repeat: Add more butter to the skillet and repeat the process with the remaining rolls, adjusting the heat if necessary to avoid burning.

Serve: Once cooked, remove the rolls from the skillet. Serve them warm, garnished with fresh pineapple slices, a drizzle of maple syrup, a dusting of powdered sugar, and toasted shredded coconut if desired.

Enjoy: Dive in and enjoy your sweet, tropical Hawaiian Roll French Toast!
