Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 tbsp dried oregano

1 tsp ground cumin

1 tsp paprika

½ tsp salt

¼ tsp black pepper

2 tbsp olive oil

4 whole wheat pita bread

1 cup tzatziki sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 cup cucumber, diced

1 cup tomatoes, diced

½ cup red onion, thinly sliced

Fresh parsley or mint for garnish

Instructions

Cook the Beef: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

Add Spices: Stir in ground cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

Brown the Beef: Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned and fully cooked, about 7-10 minutes. Drain any excess oil if desired.

Prepare the Pitas: While the beef is cooking, warm the pita breads in a dry skillet or microwave until soft.

Assemble the Gyros: Spread a generous amount of tzatziki sauce on each pita. Top with a portion of the cooked ground beef, then add diced cucumbers, tomatoes, and sliced red onions.

Garnish: Sprinkle with fresh parsley or mint for extra flavor and freshness.

Serve: Roll up the pita gyros and enjoy immediately, or wrap in foil for a portable meal!
