Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

1 pound ground beef

1/2 pound ground pork

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 large egg

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Mushroom Sauce:

2 cups mushrooms, sliced (e.g., cremini or button)

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 tablespoon butter

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup beef broth

1 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme)

Salt and pepper, to taste

Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Meatballs:

    - In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, onion, garlic, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined but do not overmix.

      - Shape the mixture into 1 ½-inch meatballs and set aside.

        Cook the Meatballs:

          - Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

            - Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a splash of olive oil. In batches, add the meatballs and brown them on all sides (about 4-5 minutes). Transfer the browned meatballs to a baking dish and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until cooked through.

              Make the Mushroom Sauce:

                - In the same skillet used for the meatballs, add the olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.

                  - Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

                    - Pour in the beef broth and bring to a simmer, scraping any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.

                      - Reduce the heat and stir in the heavy cream and Worcestershire sauce. Allow to simmer for another 5-10 minutes, or until the sauce thickens slightly.

                        - Finally, stir in the thyme, and season with salt and pepper to taste.

                          Combine and Serve:

                            - Add the baked meatballs to the mushroom sauce, gently coating them in the sauce. Let simmer together for a few minutes to meld the flavors.

                              - Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley. This dish pairs beautifully with pasta, rice, or crusty bread.
