Ingredients

1 (16 oz) package of saltine crackers

1 cup vegetable oil

1 tablespoon red pepper flakes (more or less to taste)

1 tablespoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon onion powder

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon ranch seasoning (optional)

Zest of 1 lemon

1 cup of mixed nuts (optional, for extra crunch)

Instructions

Prepare the Marinade: In a medium bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, black pepper, ranch seasoning, and lemon zest until well combined.

Arrange Crackers: Place the saltine crackers in a large mixing bowl or a sealable plastic bag. If using nuts, mix them in with the crackers for an added crunch.

Coat the Crackers: Pour the oil mixture over the saltines and nuts (if added). Toss gently until all the crackers are well coated. If you're using a bag, seal it and shake gently to distribute the seasonings evenly.

Marinate: Allow the mixture to sit for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour, shaking or tossing occasionally to ensure even coating. For a stronger flavor, refrigerate overnight.

Bake the Crackers: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Spread the marinated crackers in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake: Bake for 15-20 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes for even crisping. The crackers should be golden and crispy when done.

Cool and Store: Once baked, remove from the oven and let them cool completely on the baking sheet. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
