Ingredients

2 tablespoons loose Earl Grey tea leaves (or 2 tea bags)

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

1/2 cup chopped dark chocolate or chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

Infuse the Butter: In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the Earl Grey tea leaves and let it steep for about 15 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning. Remove from heat and let it cool for about 10 minutes, then strain to remove the tea leaves. Set aside.

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the infused butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the vanilla extract until fully combined.

Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. If using, fold in the chopped dark chocolate or chocolate chips.

Chill the Dough: Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours. This helps the cookies maintain their shape while baking.

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Shape the Cookies: Once chilled, scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Place them about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden while the center remains soft. Keep an eye on them to avoid overbaking.

Cool: Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Optional Dusting: Once cool, dust the cookies lightly with powdered sugar if desired.
