Ingredients

12 string cheese sticks

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

1 tablespoon water

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably seasoned)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

½ teaspoon paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

Marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions

Prepare the Coating: In three separate shallow dishes, place the flour, beaten eggs mixed with water, and a combination of breadcrumbs, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper.

Coat the Cheese Sticks: Start by taking a string cheese stick and dredging it in the flour, making sure it’s evenly coated. Shake off any excess flour.

Egg Drench: Next, dip it into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off before moving on.

Breadcrumb Coating: Finally, coat the cheese stick in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing lightly to ensure it adheres well. Repeat this process for all cheese sticks.

Freeze for Firmness: Place the coated mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for about 30 minutes. This will help them hold their shape during frying.

Heat the Oil: In a large skillet, heat about 1 inch of oil over medium-high heat until hot (approximately 350°F or 175°C). You can test the oil by dropping in a small piece of bread; if it bubbles and sizzles, it’s ready.

Fry the Sticks: Carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.

Drain Excess Oil: Using a slotted spoon, remove the mozzarella sticks and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

Serve: Serve the hot mozzarella sticks with marinara sauce for dipping and watch the kids dive in!
