Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1/2 lb Italian sausage, casings removed

1 cup pepperoni slices

1 medium onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup bell peppers (mixed colors), diced

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup ricotta cheese

1 cup marinara sauce

1 (9-inch) deep-dish pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

Cook the meats: In a large skillet over medium heat, combine the ground beef and Italian sausage. Cook until browned, breaking the meats apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.

Sauté the vegetables: Add the diced onion, garlic, and bell peppers to the skillet with the meats. Sauté until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes. Season with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and mix well.

Combine the fillings: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the ricotta cheese, half of the mozzarella, and a pinch of salt. Stir in the cooked meat and vegetable mixture until combined.

Prepare the crust: Roll out the deep-dish pie crust and press it into a 9-inch pie pan, allowing some overhang.

Assemble the pie: Spread the marinara sauce evenly on the bottom of the crust. Layer with the meat filling, followed by remaining mozzarella cheese, and top with pepperoni slices.

Seal the pie: Fold the overhanging crust over the top of the filling, crimping the edges to seal it. If desired, create a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.

Bake: Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.

Cool and garnish: Let the pie cool for about 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil, if desired.
