1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

2 cups granulated sugar

¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 ½ tsp baking powder

1 ½ tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

2 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

½ cup vegetable oil

2 tsp pure vanilla extract

1 cup boiling water

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup heavy cream (for frosting)

8 oz cream cheese, softened (for frosting)

2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)

1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

    Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

      Combine Wet Ingredients: Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes.

        Incorporate Boiling Water: Carefully stir in the boiling water (the batter will be thin). Mix well until smooth, then fold in the chocolate chips.

          Bake the Cake: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

            Cool: Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

              Prepare the Frosting: In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and 1 tsp of vanilla extract, mixing until smooth. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form, then gently fold into the cream cheese mixture.

                Assemble the Cake: Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a generous amount of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
