Ingredients

2 racks of baby back ribs (about 3-4 lbs)

1 tablespoon salt

1 tablespoon black pepper

2 teaspoons garlic powder

2 teaspoons onion powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

2 cups barbecue sauce (homemade or store-bought)

1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

1/2 cup chicken broth

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional, for sweetness)

Instructions

Prepare the Ribs: Remove the silver skin from the back of the ribs for better flavor and tenderness. Cut the ribs into sections (about 2-3 ribs per section) for easier handling and fitting in the crockpot.

Make the Dry Rub: In a small bowl, mix together salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper. Rub this mixture generously over both sides of the ribs, ensuring each piece is well coated.

Set Up the Crockpot: Place the ribs in the crockpot vertically, leaning them against the sides if necessary to maximize space.

Mix the Sauce: In a separate bowl, whisk together the barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, chicken broth, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar (if using). Pour this mixture over the ribs, making sure they're well covered.

Cook: Cover the crockpot with the lid and cook on low for 7-8 hours or on high for 4-5 hours. The ribs should be tender and easily pull away from the bone when done.

Finish Up (Optional): For a caramelized finish, preheat your oven to broil. Transfer the cooked ribs to a baking sheet, brush additional barbecue sauce on top, and broil for 3-5 minutes until the sauce is bubbly and slightly charred. Keep a close eye to avoid burning!

Serve: Let the ribs rest for a few minutes after broiling, then slice if desired and serve with extra barbecue sauce on the side. Enjoy with classic sides like coleslaw and cornbread!
