12 lasagna noodles

1 pound ground beef

1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed

2 cups ricotta cheese

1 large egg

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

4 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 medium onion, chopped

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon dried basil

1 teaspoon dried oregano

Salt and pepper, to taste

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

    Cook the Noodles: In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

      Prepare the Meat Sauce: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Add ground beef and Italian sausage to the pan, seasoning with salt, pepper, basil, and oregano. Cook until the meat is browned (about 7-10 minutes). Stir in 2 cups of marinara sauce and let simmer for another 5 minutes.

        Prepare the Cheese Mixture: In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, half of the grated Parmesan cheese, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until smooth and set aside.

          Assemble the Lasagna: In a 9x13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom. Layer 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by half of the meat sauce, and a third of the mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers: another 4 noodles, the remaining ricotta, the remaining meat sauce, and another third of mozzarella cheese. Top with the last 4 noodles, the remaining marinara sauce, and finish with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

            Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil (to prevent sticking, spray the foil with cooking spray). Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

              Rest Before Serving: Let the lasagna cool for 15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
