Ingredients

1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 ½ teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

2 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

½ cup vegetable oil

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

1 cup boiling water

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup caramel sauce

1 cup chopped pecans (toasted, if preferred)

Whipped cream or chocolate ganache for topping (optional)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.

Add Wet Ingredients: Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until well combined.

Add Boiling Water: Carefully stir in the boiling water (the batter will be thin). Mix in the chocolate chips for an extra indulgent touch.

Bake the Cakes: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool the Cakes: Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Assemble the Cake: Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Drizzle a generous amount of caramel sauce over the first layer and sprinkle half of the chopped pecans on top.

Add Second Layer: Place the second cake layer on top and repeat the process, drizzling more caramel sauce and adding the remaining pecans.

Decorate: Use whipped cream or chocolate ganache to frost the top of the cake, if desired. You can also drizzle additional caramel on top for that signature turtle effect.

Serve & Enjoy: Slice the cake and serve it with extra caramel sauce on the side for those who crave a little more sweetness. Enjoy your decadent chocolate turtle cake!
