Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

3/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1/2 cup dark chocolate chips

1/2 cup dried cherries, chopped

1/2 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Add Egg and Vanilla: Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.

Fold in Add-Ins: Gently fold in the dark chocolate chips, chopped dried cherries, and nuts (if using) until evenly distributed.

Shape Cookies: Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set and the tops look slightly cracked. Do not overbake; the centers should remain soft.

Cooling Time: Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Enjoy: Serve the cookies warm or at room temperature, and enjoy the fudgy delight with a glass of cold milk or a hot cup of coffee!
