Ingredients

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, packed

½ cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy. This should take about 3-4 minutes.

Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Mix in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Avoid over-mixing.

Fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie.

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the center remains soft. The cookies will continue to firm up as they cool.

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
