Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

3/4 cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tablespoon lemon juice)

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

1/4 cup melted unsalted butter (for brushing)

1/2 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning (for topping, optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk until well combined.

Cut In the Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Add Cheese: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped parsley (if using) until evenly distributed.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk with the melted butter (reserve some for brushing later). Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently just until combined. Do not overmix.

Form the Biscuits: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat and gently fold the dough over itself a few times to create layers, then roll or pat it out to about 1-inch thick. Cut out biscuits using a floured biscuit cutter or a glass, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake: Brush the tops of the biscuits with the reserved melted butter and sprinkle with Old Bay seasoning (if using). Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.

Serve Warm: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Serve warm with additional butter or your favorite dipping sauce.
