Ingredients

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, packed

½ cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 tsp vanilla extract

2 cups chocolate chips (or desired mix-ins like nuts, dried fruit, etc.)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch cake pan with butter or non-stick spray.

Prepare the Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set this mixture aside.

Cream the Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, mix in the vanilla extract until fully combined.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the butter mixture, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.

Fold in Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the chocolate chips (or other mix-ins) using a spatula until evenly distributed.

Spread the Cookie Dough: Pour the cookie dough into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly with a spatula.

Bake: Place the cake pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool and Serve: Allow the cookies to cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before slicing into squares and serving.
