Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter

1 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup rolled oats

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Brown the Butter: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until the butter foams and turns a golden brown color, about 5-7 minutes. You’ll notice a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Mix Sugars and Eggs: In a large mixing bowl, combine the brown butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar. Mix until well combined. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, beating well until the mixture is smooth and glossy.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, rolled oats, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.

Incorporate Chocolate Chips: Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using). Be careful not to overmix; a few flour streaks are perfectly fine.

Spread Batter in Pan: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.

Cool and Cut: Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before cutting into squares.

Serve and Enjoy: Once cooled, serve the bars with a scoop of ice cream or enjoy them as is with a glass of milk!
