Ingredients

1/2 cup unsalted butter (115g)

1 cup granulated sugar (200g)

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (40g)

1/2 cup all-purpose flour (65g)

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional, for extra fudginess)

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional, for crunch)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease or line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.

Melt the Butter: In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter completely. Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly.

Mix Sugar and Eggs: Stir in the granulated sugar into the melted butter until well combined. Then, add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a spatula, being careful not to overmix. The batter should be thick and fudgy. If desired, stir in chocolate chips and nuts.

Pour Batter: Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Cool and Slice: Once baked, allow the brownies to cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes. If you used parchment paper, you can lift them out and place them directly on the rack to cool completely before slicing into squares.

Serve and Enjoy: Serve your decadent brownies plain or topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of chocolate sauce for that extra indulgence!
