Ingredients

8 slices of thick-cut bacon

1 pound ground beef

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper, to taste

8 slices of cheddar cheese

8 slices of sourdough bread

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

1 large dill pickle, sliced (optional)

Ketchup or burger sauce, for drizzling

Fresh lettuce leaves (optional)

Sliced tomatoes (optional)

Instructions

Cook the Bacon: In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet and let it drain on paper towels. Reserve some bacon grease in the skillet.

Prepare the Beef: In a bowl, mix the ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Form the beef into 4 burger patties.

Cook the Patties: In the skillet with the reserved bacon grease, cook the burger patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place 2 slices of cheddar cheese on top of each patty to melt.

Assemble the Sandwiches: Butter one side of each slice of sourdough bread. On the unbuttered side of 4 slices, layer a cheesy burger patty, 2 slices of bacon, and additional toppings like pickles, lettuce, and tomatoes. Place the other slices of bread on top, buttered side up.

Grill the Sandwiches: In a large skillet over medium-low heat, cook the sandwiches for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and the cheese has melted. You may need to do this in batches.

Serve: Once done, remove the sandwiches from the skillet, slice them in half, and serve hot with a drizzle of ketchup or burger sauce.
