Ingredients

For the Dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)

1 cup warm milk (110°F)

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon salt

For the Apple Filling:

3 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored, and diced (about 3 cups)

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon unsalted butter, for sautéing

For the Brown Butter Maple Frosting:

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 cup powdered sugar

1/4 cup pure maple syrup

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Pinch of salt

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

    - In a large bowl, stir together the warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

      - Add the melted butter, eggs, vanilla, and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a dough forms.

        - Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

          Make the Apple Filling:

            - In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the apples are tender. Remove from heat and let cool.

              Assemble the Buns:

                - Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a 12x18 inch rectangle on a floured surface.

                  - Spread the sautéed apple filling evenly over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border at the edges.

                    - Carefully roll the dough tightly from the long end to form a log. Pinch the seams to seal, then slice the log into 12 equal pieces.

                      - Place the slices into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Cover and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.

                        Bake the Buns:

                          - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the buns for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.

Prepare the Brown Butter Maple Frosting:

                              - In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Continue cooking until it turns a golden brown color, with a nutty aroma, about 4-5 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

                                - In a bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, vanilla, and brown butter. If too thick, add a tablespoon of milk to reach your desired consistency.

                                  Frost and Serve:

                                    - Drizzle the warm frosting generously over the slightly cooled buns. Allow the frosting to set for a few minutes before serving.
