Ingredients

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1 cup walnuts or pecans (optional)

Extra chocolate chips for topping (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a medium microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips and the butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.

Once melted, remove from the microwave and stir in the granulated sugar until well combined.

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, followed by the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the chocolate mixture, stirring just until combined. If desired, fold in the walnuts or pecans.

Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop rounded dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

If you like, sprinkle some extra chocolate chips on top of each cookie for added decadence.

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set and the tops look slightly crackled but still soft in the center.

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
